kellylovesduke asked:

I was laid off last Sept and haven’t gotten a permanent job yet. I’m temping now for the county and I do not know for how long. I got a call for a med office position (which I really want to do) but would have to ask my boss to take lunch early on Thursday. I normally rarely even take time off for the doctor or vacations and I feel guilty and anxious to even to have to ask. They know the situation, I’ve never left for an interview while temping before, but its been 11 months since I had a steady paycheck.
The temp agency and the boss at the county office know my situation, I worked for bad lawyers and unstable companies. He’s a nice guy, last week I actually had an interview across the hall in a different dept. He knows I would like to work for the county and he says a position has been approved, but red tape has it in limbo so far.

Is it legal to go to the USA with “Visa Waiver Program” and go to job interviews?

Hi,

I plan to do an internship in the USA (I’m French) with a visa J-1. I have a sponsor to get that visa.I need to find an employer now.

I’d like to know if It is legal to go to the USA and go to job interviews with “Visa Waiver Program”.

I went to the US embassy website and they say:
“The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) enables citizens of certain countries to travel to the United States for tourism or business for 90 days or less without obtaining a visa.”

So, as I understand it, it is legal as they allow people to travel for business with this program…
What do you think?

Thank you in advance.

Will your current employer fire you if they know you are looking for another job and going on job interviews?

Lashon h asked:

I wanted to know how do you go about looking for another job while you are still employed. Do you let your current employer know you are seeking other jobs or do you keep quiet. When you are going on job interviews do you tell your current employer or give them another excuse. Does your current employer have a right to fire you if they find out you are looking for another job. Can someone tell me their experience with this.
Thanks

How long should one wait for a job offer after 2 interviews?

I recently went on a first job interview which went very well (interviewed with 2 higher-ups), and after that went on a second interview in which I interviewed with (an additional) couple more people who are on the team. I received an email a week later saying they are still still making decisions and assessing their team’s needs and the position and that they would hopefully have an answer soon, and that my interviews went well. They said they haven’t had time to fully meet and fully discuss since it’s such a large company. I replied thanking them for their time and that I understood that these things take time, and added that I am still very interested in the position.

How long should I reasonably wait before I ask about the status of the position again? If it turns out they don’t think you’re right for the job after two interviews, would most companies be honest in letting you know that you weren’t a right fit?
Also, this position has been open for several months, so they seem really picky.

How should I handle being terminated from a job on applications & interviews?

missusjonz asked:

I’m sure this question has been asked many times before, but I was having trouble searching for a similar question.

Anyway, I worked at the job for 3+ years, was promoted there twice, and more than doubled my starting hourly wage through raises, so I was clearly a valued employee.

I was terminated (not laid off) suddenly during a time of “corporate restructuring” ; my attitude and job performance were suffering because of unhappiness with the changes, and I was looking for another job. They listed on my termination notice “multiple breach of company policy.”

I can’t just leave them off my work history, because this place is where I gained most of my relevant work experience.

How do I handle this on my resume, on applications, and in interviews? (I have been on 7 job interviews, and suspect that I am either blowing it on this issue, or the past employer is screwing me up on references)
Great answers coming in so far! Thanks to all!

I tried to go to askyourass.com, though, and it seems not to be there anymore, or I’m stupid & am doing something wrong. I am going to the bookstore to see if they have the book.

What should I do about two possible job interviews?

boysluvgirls asked:

Well, I’ve been looking for a second job, for the morning/ afternoon. I’ve applied at several places and gave my cell #. Today, just my luck, I left my phone at home and McDonalds and Boston Market called me back, but left no messages. I’m sure I’ll get interviews and the jobs at either place, I’m good with interviews. But which job do you think would be better? McDonalds or Boston Market?

Note: They called me less than 3 days after I applied!
